Podcast of the Week: SuperNerds UK

❉ All things pop culture including special guests, movie reviews and more galore!

We’re big fans of podcasts here at We Are Cult, and we’re always looking for new shows to subscribe to. So if you’re looking for ear candy, we’re here to help!

This week: Ben Fenlon tells us all about SuperNerds UK Podcast.

What’s your podcast about?

We’re a light-hearted pop-culture magazine show. Most episodes have a guest interview, ranging from movie directors to comic book writers. Nothing is really off limits! We have features, reviews and even a game show. Think Soccer AM or Sunday Brunch, but for the comic con crowd.

If you had to describe your show in 10 words or less, what would you say?

A funny, accessible nerd culture show, with interviews.

Which episode would you recommend for a first-time listener?

Episode 51, our interview with Jason Flemyng, is a good start. It shows what we’re about as a whole and has a good, really funny interview. Jason talks about working with Sean Connery on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and how he became friends with Brad Pitt.

Do you have a favourite episode?

Yes, it’s either Ep 50 with Dexter Fletcher or Ep 34 with Christopher Daniel Barnes. Two amazing people giving two great interviews.

What inspired you to create this podcast?

We wanted to make an accessible, easy to listen to podcast to talk about nerdy stuff.

Which guests have you had on your podcast so far?

We’ve been really lucky, in that we’ve had quite a few amazing people come onto our show. Recently we’ve had Dexter Fletcher, Kevin Eastman (creator of TMNT), Jason Flemyng, Cal Dodd (the voice of Wolverine) David Patrick Kelly and Annette O’Toole.

Who would be your dream guest?

For me it’d be John Carpenter or Stephen King.

Which equipment do you use for your podcast set-up?

We record using Snowball mics and everything is edited on Adobe Audition.

What would you say is the best length of time for a podcast episode?

It depends really, I like longer episodes, about an hour and half or longer. I listen on the way to and from work, so I have the time.

Which podcasts (other than yours) would you recommend we listen to?

At the moment my favourite podcast is nerdschatting. They’re very funny guys and have some great discussions.

Where is your podcast available to listen to?

Our website: www.supernerdsuk.com has the podomatic player on the front page. We’re hosted on Podomatic, but we’re on iTunes, Stitcher and pretty much everywhere podcasts ate available.

What is the future of podcasting as a creative medium?

I think podcasts are only going to increase in popularity. It’s basically radio on demand on your own terms. Who doesn’t love that?!
