BlakLight – ‘Nightmares’

Blaklight’s delivery of dark electronic pop is second to none, writes Ange Chan.

The LA duo, Blaklight aka Brian Belknap and Adam Collier, are back with their new single Nightmares. It’s already secured significant radio play having been featured on Artefaktor’s Friday night Electro Wave Show hosted by Stuart Calder.  The song’s cascading synth melodies and multi-layered sounds provide an instant earworm for this catchy song.  Blaklight are garnering some significant support within the synth scene, and their delivery of dark electronic pop is second to none.

Brian, said, “Nightmares was one of the first lyrics written for the batch of songs comprising our forthcoming album, Into the Void.  It fits as a bridge between what we started with our debut album, Music in a Time of Uncertainty, and where we are now”.

The B-side is a cover of Ministry’s Effigy (I’m Not An), taken from their 1983 debut album With Sympathy.  Adam Collier said “When choosing covers, they are always songs by bands that have been a huge influence on us. While recording the music for the new album, I was listening to With Sympathy by Ministry a lot. It was quite easy to choose Effigy (I’m Not An) as it’s a very strong song. I feel like we have put our flavour on it, and we hope that people will enjoy it as much as we do”.

Nightmares will be followed by a second single, Reset, which will be available on 10 September with the forthcoming, much-anticipated album Into the Void, released on 8 October 2021.
