The Final Chapter In A Legendary Journey For Robin Of Sherwood

Two new books available now from Chinbeard Books – Robin of Sherwood: The Magic Man and The Knights of the Apocalypse – mark the end of an era.

Chinbeard Books, in association with Oak Tree Books, proudly presents the final two titles in the long-running Robin of Sherwood novella series — a heartfelt conclusion to a decade-long journey through the legend created by Richard ‘Kip’ Carpenter.

These two new books — The Magic Man by Jennifer Ash, and Knights of the Apocalypse, adapted from Carpenter’s original script by Barnaby Eaton-Jones — mark the last official additions to the richly imagined world of the iconic British TV series. Both books celebrate the enduring legacy of the Hooded Man and offer fans one final adventure in Sherwood.

The Sheriff has imposed yet another food tithe on Sherwood and stores it at Abbot Hugo’s abbey. Robin Hood and his outlaws are determined to break in and steal it back.

But a strange man has come to the abbey pleading for sanctuary – a storyteller who claims to receive visions from God.

The Magic Man.

In far off Wales, a druid is watching him intently, determined to stop his stories; and he is not watching alone. A future echo is about to cast a shadow over the outlaws of Sherwood…

Jennifer Ash, a stalwart of the Robin of Sherwood literary universe, crafts a poignant final tale rooted in myth, magic, and prophecy. Inspired by a long-gestating idea from producer Barnaby Eaton-Jones, it stands as a tribute to the spiritual heart of the series and to its creator Richard ‘Kip’ Carpenter.

England in the reign of King John and a dark force is intent on conquest. Only the Hooded Man can stand against it.

The church lies impotent at the mercy of the Pope and the interdict against the kingdom.

With the people living in fear, and a series of disappearances that threaten the very fabric of noble society, Robin Hood and his band of outlaws must race to rescue the past, so that the future may be protected…

Originally written by Robin of Sherwood creator Richard Carpenter, this story remained unfilmed during his lifetime. Resurrected as an audio drama in 2016, producer and adaptor Barnaby Eaton-Jones now brings it to the page with newly commissioned illustrations by Andy Hosegood, giving fans a definitive literary edition of Carpenter’s final Sherwood story.

“A Proper Adventure”: A Note from the Steward of Sherwood

Barnaby Eaton-Jones, producer and head of Chinbeard Books, reflects on the end of the Robin of Sherwood journey:

“I’ve spent a decade of my life producing new and official stories and adventures (and events) for Robin of Sherwood. I started my audio and literary journey with an unproduced script from the writer/creator of the television show, Richard ‘Kip’ Carpenter. That was called The Knights of the Apocalypse.

“I’m ending my time as producer/publisher by penning a new adaptation of that audio, with some amazing illustrations by the artist Andy Hosegood, and releasing the final original tale, written by RoS stalwart Jennifer Ash — from a story I’d half-concocted many moons ago, to pay proper tribute to Kip himself.”

He adds:

“Paul Andrews and AUK Studios have allowed me to finish the story that Spiteful Puppet started, and I doff my hat to Paul’s patience and support as we came to the end of our time in Sherwood.

“It’s been a proper adventure, with much good, much evil, and much romance, and I shoot my last flaming arrow into the lake to say thank you to the fans, to the cast and crew, to all the people who’ve worked with me, and to Kip and his daughter, Harriet, for allowing me to keep the campfire alight for ten whole years.”

A Final Farewell for the Fans

Together, The Magic Man and Knights of the Apocalypse form a powerful closing chapter in a series that has spanned decades, mediums, and generations of fans.

Whether you’re a long-time follower of the outlaws or discovering Sherwood for the first time, these final stories honour the legacy of Robin of Sherwood with heart, myth, and magic.
