❉ Kristin Hersh previews ‘Breathe In’ from ‘Possible Dust Clouds’ LP ahead of UK tour.
Throwing Muses lynchpin Kristin Hersh has a string of events worth celebrating – she’s just signed to Fire Records to release her next album Possible Dust Clouds, she’s playing Robert Smith’s Meltdown on June 21, she’s finalizing recordings with friends for her upcoming album, as well as the next Throwing Muses album, and she’s announced a string of UK dates from June 17 through July 1. We Are Cult are happy to present a preview of yet another track from her album – Breathe In arrives on the trail of her highly-addictive LAX track.
On Breathe In, Hersh is joined by Fred Abong (Throwing Muses, Belly) on bass and Kristin’s son, Wyatt True, on drums. On LAX, she is accompanied by Chris Brady (Pond) on vocals and Rob Ahlers (50FOOTWAVE) on drums.
We Are Cult‘s Eoghan Lyng recently conducted an interview with Hersh, which you can read in full HERE.
Of forthcoming album Possible Dust Clouds Kristin told We Are Cult that it would be a planet away from her most recent Wyatt at the Coyote Palace (2016).
“That was recorded down the street from my farm house, my son would explore the coyote palace, to wander around with coyotes.” Hersh says. “I was doing that album by myself, I mostly play the instruments myself. It took a long time that album, very dark sounding, about five years. One day my son had decided he’d had enough of the coyote palace, which struck me. I told Dave, my drummer, about this and he said that’s the template. As in, that’s enough Kris, pencils down. We’re all finite creatures. So,I finally finished that album. So, for Possible Dust Clouds, I wanted this as a party, sunshiney party. I normally play the instruments myself, but this time I invited everyone who came to the studio on it”.
Of her spot at Meltdown Festival this year, she says:
“I like how this is artist centred, it’s Robert Smith organising. I also did the Patti Smith one, I only do the Smith’s[laughs]”.
Was Patti an influence on a young Kristin?
“My dad listened to her, so I listened to her through him. I didn’t actively listen to her myself. I’m being too honest, yeah? I shouldn’t be so honest!”
Hersh is also gearing up for her United Kingdom tour with a string of 11 shows and a repertoire comprising material spanning her career, her poignant true stories bringing the listener into what the BBC calls Hersh’s “dark and dizzy world”.
Support for Kristin on these dates will be friend and former Throwing Muses and Belly bass player Fred Abong, who will be touring his new solo acoustic EP, alternately described as “ragged Replacements” and “Elliott Smith with balls”. Hersh and Abong warmly recall their time together in Throwing Muses. Fred was part of the band at the time that ‘The Real Ramona’ was recorded. This tour is a celebration of this long-standing friendship, as well as an expression of their appreciation of each other’s solo efforts.
Hersh’s UK tour kicks off on June 17 in Bristol at the Redgrave Theatre and wraps up in Britain’s south-east on July 1 at the Ramsgate Music Hall. Tour and ticket info for all shows can be found at www.kristinhersh.com/appearances.
