❉ We Are Cult premiere the video for Eleri’s latest single ‘This Ship’, unveiled today!
‘What a crystalline and beautiful voice’ – Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales.
We Are Cult are pleased to share the official music video for country artist Eleri Angharad’s latest single This Ship, created with award-winning, Cardiff-based videographers Fine Rolling Media, and filmed on the gorgeous Bracelet Bay and in Eleri’s hometown of Swansea, South Wales.
Eleri is a Country artist from Swansea, drawing influences from James Taylor, Kacey Musgraves and early Taylor Swift records. Her new sound was inspired by a North American road trip she embarked on at the age of 19, writing, busking and performing in cities such as Chicago, New York and of course Nashville. Eleri blends traditional US Country Music storytelling with the catchy melodies of modern pop.
The story of a stormy breakup, latest single This Ship was released in October 2018, and in its first week gained over 2,500 streams on Spotify. This release also gained Eleri recognition as Swansea Music Hub’s Artist of the Week.
‘‘This Ship’ is based on a turbulent relationship between two people who feel like they’re constantly on stormy seas, trying to ride each wave and keep off the rocks. The girl in the song realizes she had the power all along to sink the ship and walk away. I really hope it can empower someone to realize they can always take control of a really out of control situation.’ – Eleri Angharad
The single was recorded at Woodcroft in Cardiff and produced by Lee House, previous sound engineer at Acapela Studio who has also worked with Welsh Artists Amy Wadge and Cerys Matthews. The track features local musician Scott Mckeon, of the band Rusty Shackle, on violin, mandolin and bohran. This blends seamlessly with Eleri’s crystalline vocals and Lee’s electric slide guitar to create a modern country feel.
Eleri’s previous EP All I Can Do (Train Track Records 2016) was funded by the BBC Horizons scheme and garnered airplay from BBC Wales, BBC6music and Nation Radio. Welsh Language single Dal Fi was also playlisted on BBC Radio Cymru for 8 weeks in 2017.
Captivated by Nashville artists, unapologetically spilling their hearts out and telling stories of heartbreak, travelling and coming home, Eleri explores these themes in her upcoming album Earthbound; a body of work based on her travels around the US, Ireland and Sweden, co-written with former Catatonia writer and guitarist, Owen Powell and Cardiff based singer/songwriter Naomi Rae.
‘I am currently busy writing and recording tracks for my debut album ‘Earthbound’, a body of work based on stories of my travels and performances around the US, Ireland and Sweden. My new music is fuelled by my passion for Nashville guitar driven, organic sounds blended with the roots of my Welsh upbringing.’ – Eleri Angharad
Eleri has sold out hometown shows and regularly tours up and down the South Coast including Cardiff, Bristol and Southampton. She has performed at festivals such as Big Cwtch, KAYA, Cardiff HUB fest, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Stockholm’s Folkcentrum. She is currently booking a UK wide tour for April 2019.
