Cutaway Comics, Manchester’s comic imprint exploring creator-owned properties from Doctor Who announces stretch goals for their record-breaking Paradise Towers Kickstarter including a return to another classic Doctor Who story – The Happiness Patrol.
The Kickstarter for the imprint’s latest title was fully funded within less than 30 minutes of going live, and has amassed £15,000 of support since launch. Years have passed since Kroagnon, the great architect, tried to wipe out the inhabitants of Paradise Towers. PARADISE PROMISES POSSIBILITY! Now they prosper under the leadership of General Favalan and her soldiers. The residents want for nothing. They fear nothing. After all, in paradise, what is there to fear…?
Launching stretch goals going into the last week of the Kickstarter being open, Publisher Gareth Kavanagh comments: “We’re floored by the support of readers old and new who have pledged to Paradise Towers. As ever, the Cutaway team have had their thinking caps on as to stretch goals that will be entertaining and enhance the packages everyone is pledging for.”
Stretch goals announced include:
❉ A backup strip based on The Happiness Patrol returning to the human colony of Terra Alpha, where sadness is against the law and happiness is key;
❉ BONNIE LANGFORD (Mel) and SOPHIE ALDRED (Ace) as guests on the audio commentaries contained on our signature VAM discs;
❉ A new video documentary, Kangs Are Best, looks at the phenomenon around the Kangs, the gangs of teenage girls inhabiting Paradise Towers, featuring cast, crew and fans;
❉ New audio dramas from Paradise Towers’ original writer and award-winning dramatist Stephen Wyatt, Maddy’s Diary and The Wallscrawler.
Announcing a return to The Happiness Patrol, Gareth adds: “We’re so pleased to work with both Happiness Patrol writer Graeme Curry’s estate and Doctor Who legend Andrew Cartmel. Andrew’s been very helpful with advice and guidance of how we can approach this exciting series – happiness will prevail! And we’ve got another fantastic writer in Andrew Orton joining our lineup for these backup strips.”
