❉ Ange Chan reviews the Anglo-Scandi outfit’s first Danish-language release.
Comprised of Ian Harling (UK) and Martin Nyrup (Denmark), Perpacity have been creating dark, industrial, electronic soundscapes since their 2015 debut album The Sinner Inclination (released in 2015 through Global Dance Records), which was swiftly followed in 2016 with their well-received second album Arise. 2023 saw Perpacity releasing the 12-track album Discordia, marking their landmark fifth long-player. In 2024, Town & Towers Records reissued albums The Order Of Now and Discordia in remastered form, which brings us to the imminent release of the band’s latest single Lille Flamme (Translation: Small Flame), available from 2 May 2025 through Town & Towers Records.
Translating in English as ‘Small Flame’ Lille Flamme opens with a cinematic introduction with a haunting, uneasy feel to it, akin to the title theme of a dark Scandi-thriller. As the track progresses, the sombre mood persists with film noir motifs joined by lingering vocals.
Lille Flamme will be the third single released from the upcoming album, Poverty of the Flesh, with all of the tracks presented in the band’s native Danish language. It embraces the band’s Nordic roots, and delves into sibling love, their shared history, and the strength that lies within it.
The single’s accompanying brace of B-sides are also in Danish: Sjælekamp (Translation: Battle of Souls) reflects the struggle to escape the abyss of overwhelming hopelessness, and despair, and Bedrager (Translation: Imposter) concerns that one person no-one wants or should ever have in their life.
From their debut onwards, Perpacity have successfully carved out their own distinct sound, and this latest single proudly continues this development.
