Podcast of the Week: Swipe Left Swipe Left

❉ This week: The podcast for stories of unexpected relationship adventures and dating failures.

So many podcasts, so little time. We’re big fans of podcasts here at We Are Cult, and we’re always looking for more shows to subscribe to. So if you’re looking for ear candy, we’re here to help!

Each week we profile must-hear podcasts by giving podcast creators a platform to tell us about their shows in their own words.

This week: Gavin Wong tells us all about Swipe Left Swipe Left, the podcast for stories of unexpected relationship adventures and dating failures.

What’s your podcast about?

We’re all about the funny and unexpected true stories that come from the awkwardness of dating and relationships. It’s for single people to empathise with, those in relationships to live vicariously through.

If you had to describe your show in 10 words or less, what would you say?

Stories of unexpected relationship adventures and dating failures.

Which episode would you recommend for a first-time listener? Do you have a favourite episode?

I think the last one is a good one to start with. It’s about Claire’s brother who accidentally broke a girl’s leg after giving her a piggyback ride, on a first date, on a mountain. And what happened next.

What inspired you to create this podcast?

Claire and I started this podcast after being together for a few years. We realised that our single friends had all the interesting stories, and the stories they told us were just too good not to share. As Gavin works as an IT developer and Claire, a radio producer, we decided to team up to build a website to collect fun written stories, and turn them into podcast episodes. Our website is www.swipeleftswipeleft.com

Which guests have you had on your podcast so far?

We’ve mined our friends, family and neighbours for stories, and have collected a few via our website. The contributors are all anonymous which makes the stories they tell bold, unflinching and full of the nitty gritty details you wouldn’t want your gran to hear.

Who would be your dream guest?

Hmmm, great question. Comedians and actors make great interviewees as they know how to tell a good yarn. Do you know anyone with a great dating story?!

Which equipment do you use for your podcast set-up?

We record at home using a Zoom H4 with external pre-amp and shot gun microphone, a Rode 2NG

What would you say is the best length of time for a podcast episode?

Our episodes are all between 5 and 20 minutes. We like to keep them short and sweet.

Which podcasts (other than yours) would you recommend we listen to?

We love the ‘Everyone Else’ podcast, another U.K independent show. We also love a bit of Love+Radio, The Heart, Strangers, Short Cuts … and many more. We’re addicts too.

Where is your podcast available to listen to?

Apple Podcasts, CastBox, Podbean, Acast … all the usual places. And of course our website. www.swipeleftswipeleft.com

What is the future of podcasting as a creative medium?

Loads of money and glory… obviously.
