Inspiral Carpets: ‘The Complete Singles’

❉ New compilation sees all of the Manchester band’s singles remastered and available on one album for the first time.

On 17 March 2023 Inspiral Carpets will release the new compilation: ‘The Complete Singles’, compiling all of the Manchester band’s 24 singles to date. From 1988’s ‘Keep The Circle Around’ to their most recent single, ‘Let You Down’ featuring the unmistakable tones of John Cooper Clarke, the album will be available on double heavyweight ‘midnight liquorice’ black vinyl and as a 3CD set with an exclusive remix bonus disc that collates classic, rare and unreleased remixes from across their career alongside two new unreleased mixes, from The Go! Team and Martyn Walsh & Simon Lyon.

Inspiral Carpets introduced the mainstream to Madchester with some of the greatest pop anthems of the time and their unparalleled run of joyous singles saw them take their place in a Holy Triumvirate of Manchester bands (alongside the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays).

A vital component of the infamous ‘Madchester’ movement, Inspiral Carpets formed in Oldham in 1980. With three Top 10 albums (‘Life’, ‘The Beast Inside’ and ‘The Revenge of the Goldfish’) and eleven Top 40 hit singles to their name, they remain one of the era’s most celebrated and enduring acts.

This incredible run of singles spans decades and takes in ‘Joe’ ‘This Is How It Feels’, ‘Two Worlds Collide’, ‘Move’, Saturn 5’, ‘I Want You’ (featuring Mark E Smith) and more recent singles ‘Spitfire’ and 2015’s ‘Let You Down’.

Following the tragic loss of their close friend and drummer, Craig Gill, a year later, they went on an indefinite hiatus. “Craig’s death had a profound effect on many people. The outpouring of love from around the world at the time gave some comfort to his family and friends as we all tried to come to terms with what had happened” the band recently said.

‘The Complete Singles’ coincides with the start of a major UK tour. On the eve of their 2023 reunion tour, the band are keen to emphasise the celebratory nature of the forthcoming live shows, giving fans a chance to sing along to their favourite hits and commemorate the life of Craig. As the band comments: “We know this will be an emotional journey for a lot of people, not least Craig’s family. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate some of the music we created, and which has brought so much joy to people over the last 34 years.”

Kicking off in Northampton in March, the tour includes festivals and performances at Manchester’s Albert Hall and London’s Shepherds Bush Empire – full details below:
