BlakLight – ‘Out Of The Void – The Remixes’

❉ Blaklight’s new remix album adds new flavours and themes to an already fabulous album, writes Ange Chan.

Out Of The Void – The Remixes.

Hot on the heels of recent single releases to give us a taster of the album, Paranoid (Rob Dust Strange Remix) was reviewed by We Are Cult, and the track was well received within the synth scene.

Waiting (Solar Fake Remix) has a stompy uber-electronica Erasure-esque presentation which I like a lot, as the song progresses the accomplished backing gives a new energy to the song.  This is my favourite track from the album.  The Kontravoid Remix is a drum-led affair with a simpler synth treatment but still nonetheless an accomplished track which has traces of New Order.

Skin (Black Light Odyssey Remix) is the latest (and third) single to have been given the remix treatment and has a banging EBM vibe which commands you to immediately grace the dancefloor.  It’s also one of the tracks you can receive now if you pre-order the album.

Of the two remixes of Crack, I prefer the Uncreated Remix which remains truer to Blaklight’s sound and as a result of, this sounds more authentic to me. Similarly, the Into the Void (Inside Out Remix by Assemblage 23) is a perfect mix of retaining Blaklight’s essence, but also competently flavoured by touches of Assemblage 23 bringing the best of both band’s out in this well-loved track.  In complete contrast, the Foreign Resort Remix has been given a funkier, 80s Miami Vice treatment giving it a yet another different outcome to the track.

Nightmares (Remix by Stefan Netschio of Beborn Beton) has the initial aesthetics of Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus with heavy forceful drumbeats which then morph into a speedball fast-beat accompaniment to the vocal accompaniment, giving echoes of the original track with a robust remix.

All in all, the album offers new takes on an already fabulous album, Into the Void, with new flavours and themes added by their contemporaries in the synth/electronica genre.  It’s a ‘must have’ for the discerning lover of synth music and will be available in full, from Bandcamp on 15 April.
