The Adam Brown: ‘What We’ll Never Know’

❉ A half hour of power-pop from the Montreal-based indie outfit.

“A fun-filled injection of Indie-pop that has shimmers of Britpop influences a la Jarvis Cocker in the height of Pulp mania & even a little Pixies, with the gravelly to breathy vocals of Adam Brown and charming accompanying harmonies.”

Formed in 2004 and exploding onto the QC music scene, The Adam Brown promised and delivered indie pop at its best, with plenty of sing-along-able chorus action accompanied by catchy hooks.

This is the second full length record to come from the Montreal-based indie outfit, following 2015’s Sometimes I Try.

A half hour of power-pop, this release is no different. A fun-filled injection of Indie-pop that has shimmers of Britpop influences a la Jarvis Cocker in the height of Pulp mania & even a little Pixies, with the gravelly to breathy vocals of Adam Brown and charming accompanying harmonies.

The band has famously had over 20 members to date, enough to fill the carriage of the steam locomotive they’re named after (maybe even a stretch!) and toured with the likes of Michael Cera (yes, THAT Michael Cera) and Alden Penner. The album was mastered by Tim Debney, who has the likes of Thom Yorke, Julian Casablancas & The Clash in his discog arsenal.

Single It’s Emotion! is indie pop at its most twee and anthemic and likely to be stuck in your head long after its over.

Humming Around is a track begging for an open air gig, at a festival, catching the ears of passers by as they decide to stop for a bop!

Spirit Tacos is delightfully rhythmic with some gorgeous vocals and harmonies accompanied by power-pop guitars.

Transporting you through nostalgic sound in 26 minutes, this record manages to be fun and fresh, but I warn it may leave you pining for live shows again, which is the real tragedy of a covid-riddled 2020! If you can spare half an hour for an escape from our collective grim reality, it’s available to stream on Spotify, with a Vinyl release set in November. Get it done chaps!
