Podcast Of The Week: Beer, Rap & Banter Podcast

This week: English and Kal Sereousz discuss the latest current affairs, music, pop culture and sport over a few drinks.

We’re big fans of podcasts here at We Are Cult, and we’re always looking for more shows to subscribe to. So if you’re looking for ear candy, we’re here to help!

This week: English and Kal Sereousz tell us all about Beer, Rap & Banter Podcast.

What’s your podcast about?

English: Basically, we’re two school mates having a drink and chat about everything that’s been going on in the world. Be it music, popular culture or sport.

Kal: Don’t forget the sex drugs and rock and roll bro.

If you had to describe your show in 10 words or less, what would you say?

English: Uplifting, funny and topical.

Kal: Unfiltered, intelligent, interesting and relevant.

Which episode would you recommend for a first-time listener? Do you have a favourite episode?

English: Take your pick!

Kal: The latest and greatest. We might talk about something that happened recently that you can relate to.

What inspired you to create this podcast?

English: For me it was The Combat Jack Show (RIP Reggie Osse) and Juan Epstein, both hip-hop themed podcasts with great chemistry between hosts and guests.

Kal: I wanted to create a platform for real thoughts and ideas with someone I knew well. Something funny with no filter so we can just be ourselves.

Which guests have you had on your podcast so far?

English: We’ve had quite a few but so far our more well-known ones have been Moh Haider (Arsenal Fan TV), Morfius (Producer & Engineer for Wiley) & recording artist JMC.

Who would be your dream guest?

Kal: Barack Obama.

Which equipment do you use for your podcast set-up?

Kal: I have 2x large diaphragm condenser mics on stands with pop filters going into my audio interface and I record them into a DAW (Digital Audio workstation) on my PC. I use various plugins for mixing/mastering and also a wave editor. I record the samples for the show on a Mac. Add the headphones for playback and of course a million cables and it’s a fair bit of kit.

What would you say is the best length of time for a podcast episode?

Kal: I think It’s more important to think about what the content is. TED Talks have some great 10/15 min talks. Joe Rogan sometimes has mammoth 3 hour conversations. There’s no point stretching 15mins worth of content into 1hour and you can’t have a serious discussion in 15 mins. A podcast gives you the flexibility to focus on producing good content regardless of how long it is.

Which podcasts (other than yours) would you recommend we listen to?

Kal: TED Talks and the Joe Rogan experience, if you can handle it!

Where is your podcast available to listen to?

English: We’re on all formats, for all devices. So no excuses people!

Kal: iTunes, Soundcloud, Stitcher, so many platforms just Google us!

What is the future of podcasting as a creative medium?

English: More live shows. Taking over from radio, with people being allowed to play what they want and say what they want. Completely unfiltered.

Kal: Spotify is creating a new video based Podcast platform. A lot of Podcasts now have video on Youtube. We’ll be operating in that space soon too so I’d say it’s definitely going in a visual direction. The future is definitely Beer Rap and Banter. We’ve already inspired other people to start their own podcasts and I’m sure we’re inspiring other Podcasters out there too so watch this space!
