New Series: ‘Bridget And Eamon’ – UK Premiere

❉ UKTV has confirmed details of the UK premiere of cult Irish sitcom ‘Bridget And Eamon’, which debuted on Irish channel RTÉ2.

This marks the first time that an RTÉ fully funded comedy will air in the UK.

‘Bridget And Eamon’ started life as a sketch on RTÉ2’s satirical TV review and magazine show ‘Republic of Telly’. Such was its popularity that RTÉ commissioned a full series late last year from Pure Class Productions. Following the first season’s strong ratings performance, ‘Bridget & Eamon’ was renewed for a second series in July.

Written by Bernard O’Shea, Jennifer Zamparelli and Jason Butler, the show is set in the 1980s and stars Zamparelli as aspirational housewife Bridget and O’Shea as her hapless husband Eamon.

Bridget and Eamon are your typical unhappily married 80s Irish couple. They live somewhere in the Irish Midlands with their indeterminate number of children.

Chain-smoking Bridget has notions. She wants the lifestyle from the pages of Woman’s Way but wouldn’t want to think about how much it would cost to heat South Fork.

It’s views like these that give Bridget and her equally quirky husband, Eamon, immediate cult status.

The six-episode sitcom will air on Gold, as part of the Gold After Dark strand, debuting on Saturday 8th October.

  1. Its not the first time a fully-RTE comedy has been shown on UK tv. Leave It To Mrs. O’Brien was shown on TSW. at least.
