Ken Russell’s ‘The Lair of the White Worm’ is coming to Blu-ray

❉ ’80s cult classic to be released on Blu-ray in January 2017.

“Ken was one of the most delightfully strange artists I’ve worked with. And you know, his body of work, is still more interesting, provocative and challenging than 90% of the movies made in the last three decades.” – Amanda Donohoe

Loosely based on the novel by Bram Stoker and inspired by folk legends of the D’Ampton worm, Ken Russell’s 1988 film was part of a three-film deal with Vestron Pictures, which also produced ‘Gothic’ and ‘The Rainbow’.

Starring Amanda Donohoe (‘Castaway’, ‘LA Law’) burning up the screen as Lady Sylvia Marsh, ‘The Lair of the White Worm’ boasts early roles for British talents Hugh Grant, Peter Capaldi, Sammi Davis (‘Mona Lisa’) and Gina McKee (‘Our Friends In The North’), and also features character actors Stratford Johns and Peter Brooke, alongside Russell stalwarts Christopher Gable and Imogen Claire.

The film’s themes include such Russell touchstones as the battle between Christianity and paganism, innocence and corruption, and the sacred and profane, with a healthy dose of campy, black humour.
