IDLES announce second LP, preview new single

❉ ‘Joy As An Act Of Resistance’: Out August 31st on Partisan Records – watch video for first single proper “Danny Nedelko” HERE!

Bristol 5-piece IDLES (“the UK’s best punk band” – The Guardian) have confirmed details for their anticipated second LP – ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance.’ will be out August 31st via Partisan Records. IDLES have also shared the album’s first single, a pro-immigration anthem entitled “Danny Nedelko,” which takes its name from one of the band’s close friends (and Ukrainian immigrant). The song is accompanied by a self-directed video that features Danny himself, watch HERE:

Produced by Space and mixed by Adam Greenspan & Nick Launay (Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kate Bush), ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance.’ takes aim at everything from toxic masculinity, nationalism, immigration, and class inequality – all while maintaining a visceral, infectious positivity. Singer Joe Talbot summarises: “This album is an attempt to be vulnerable to our audience and to encourage vulnerability; a brave naked smile in this shitty new world. We have stripped back the songs and lyrics to our bare flesh to allow each other to breathe, to celebrate our differences, and act as an ode to communities and the individuals that forge them. Because without our community, we’d be nothing.”

Read Joe’s full statement on the album’s inspiration and origins here:

It is a parade of laughing at the funeral, of listening to the bastards, of phlegm on the mirror.
It is a parade of my Grandfather’s wit, it is all the shit haircuts I’ve ever had.
It is a parade of naivety, of a warm embrace, it is Young Thug’s dress.
It is the parade of being carried through the grim dark.
It is a parade of laughing at yourself. It is love. It is loving yourself.
It is a parade of Tony Benn’s smile.
It is Idles, for now. It is the beautiful smell of immigrant food.
It is a parade of vulnerability. It is Ilie Nastase
It is a parade of being at your worst. It is our best, for now.
It is our thank you. It is our sorry.
It is a parade without fluff but with a ton of glitter
and violence.
It is a parade of what I truly miss and what I truly have.

Last week IDLES unleashed blistering 2-part album opener, “Colossus,” along with a music video that features cameos from Stone Cold Steve Austin, Fred Astaire, Evel Knievel, Jesus Christ + more. Watch HERE:

This fall, IDLES will embark on their first ever global tour, including their biggest London headliner yet at O2 Forum Kentish Town on 18th October. Their last London headliner, at Heaven, sold out nearly six months in front. Full dates below, general on sale begins Friday June 8th at 10am local time. More info here.

IDLES self-released their debut album – ‘Brutalism’ – last year. (ICYMI here’s what We Are Cult said about it: “A short, sharp bracing racket, in the lineage of the Gang of Four school of post-punk.”) That record carried the band to #1 on Spotify’s Viral Chart, they opened for Foo Fighters at the O2, and landed on Loud & Quiet, DIY, CRACK, NME, Dork and Radio 6’s albums of the year lists among others. They’ve performed to fervent audiences at Primavera, Latitude, Reading and Leeds festivals, and were one of the biggest success stories to come out of SXSW this March (“May be the best punk show of its kind I’ve ever witnessed…felt like experiencing something people will be talking about for years to come.” – Austin American Statesmen).
