This book tells the story of the film noir movement through eighteen key movies, covering directors like Orson Welles, Billy Wilder and John Huston and stars like Robert Mitchum, Humphrey Bogart and Barbara Stanwyck, giving background of their production and offering analysis. In between, it looks at other significant examples and concludes with a survey of noir from beyond the Hollywood of the 1940s and 1950s.
